Description
Here is a painting unlike any other Frank Mechau. Titled Horses in Moonlight, it is dated 1932, the year of our parents’ return to the U.S. from two years in Europe. Having becoming enmeshed in the modern art world in Paris, our father tried a range of artistic techniques and produced several interesting paintings. But before long he found that the subject matter of art had far more meaning to him—the landscape and life he knew so well in Colorado. Home. We might say that this painting represents transition from abstraction toward realism. – The Mechau Family
