After joining some of his cowboy friends on a round up of wild horses, Mechau was inspired to create this scene capturing their frantic movement while being corralled in a complex geometry of fences.  Sky and mountain, timeless in their beauty, form the backdrop against which the scene is set. This painting has been in the collection of New York’s Metropolitan Museum since the late 1930’s. Its design reflects both the importance our father gave to the comity between art and architecture as suggested by the design of the corrals, and his love and concern for wild horses. – The Mechau Family
